Facilitating the growth of the bioeconomy in Hauts-de-France

For more than 20 years, Agro-Transfert has been supporting the development of the bioeconomy in the Hauts-de-France region. Drawing on our expertise in agronomy and multi-criteria assessment, we help projects emerge, from farm to plate.

Since the late 1990s, Agro-Transfert has been committed to developing new ways of valorising agricultural biomass. This movement has contributed to the emergence of bioeconomy value chains, providing sustainable alternatives to fossil-based industries.

Our Research & Development teams initially focused on the production and mobilisation of agricultural resources. They then facilitated dialogue between companies and producers involved across the value chains – from upstream to downstream – who often did not know each other.

Twenty-five years later, we place our expertise at the service of regions.

Our objective: to secure the supply of agricultural bioresources and support the establishment of sustainable value chains.

We address your questions in agronomy, impact assessment (notably through life cycle assessment), and economic and social outcomes.

Bioeconomy value chains addressed: plant proteins, anaerobic digestion, biofuels, bio-based fuels, biomaterials (straw, etc.).

Better understanding agricultural resource potential to supply bioeconomy value chains

Agro-Transfert puts its expertise at the service of projects seeking to sustainably valorise agricultural biomass in the Hauts-de-France region.

We assess available resource potential and the conditions for its sustainable mobilisation. Thanks to our tools, we provide quantified and well-argued data to support project leaders in guiding their sourcing choices.

Supporting project leaders to foster the emergence of new value chains

For more than 20 years, we have supported the development of agricultural bioeconomy value chains. This experience enables us to address the key questions raised at the early stages of a project:

  • What are the agronomic conditions required to produce and mobilise the resource?
  • What are the environmental, economic and social impacts of agricultural sourcing?

We rely on recognised assessment tools:

  • Multi-criteria assessment (agronomic, economic, environmental)
    • at different scales: plot, cropping system, value chain, territory
  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

We make these skills available to companies, cooperatives, agricultural collectives and territorial organisations seeking to develop robust projects in the Hauts-de-France region.

A network of committed stakeholders serving businesses

Since 2023, Agro-Transfert has partnered with B4C, Extractis, Adrianor, FRD Codem and i-Terra to offer a comprehensive service package “from field to plate”. This alliance aims to support regional companies at every stage of their bioeconomy projects.

Text excerpt:

In concluding his book “The Renewal of Territories through the Bioeconomy”, Jean-Marc Callois (2022) stated that “the bioeconomy offers the prospect of reconciling the economy with the living world. Not only by making better and more sustainable use of bioresources, but also by designing economic organisation in the manner of an ecosystem, where the interplay of interactions strengthens the resilience of the whole.”

This vision was echoed by the region last December with the launch of its Ambition Bioeconomy expert network, of which Agro-Transfert is a founding member. Marie-Sophie Lesne stated: “You can count on the region to support you… We have already invested in the bioeconomy, notably by supporting the PROFIL project, and we will do so again.” Bioeconomy value chains are set to gain greater visibility.
